World of Warcraft Invaded by Stock Brokers

pirates.jpgTwo high-level World of Warcraft players with way too much time on their hands bought out an entire auction house on the Elune server of the massively multiplayer game, then begin selling the items at a 200 to 300 percent markup. Although this is a bit obnoxious, it doesn't strike me as necessarily griefing. Of course, if this was actually backed by one of the groups that hire people to hunt the game for gold for resale in the real world, that would be a different story.

I'm mostly fascinated that all reports seem to indicate that most WoW gamers were very upset by this, but didn't do anything to try and get around it, like shop somewhere else or go out and find the supplies themselves. I mean, WoW is a virtual world, which means that it has its own economy and that people can come along at times and corner markets. The best way to fight that is to create new markets to undercut the overpricing and stop buying from them. I can't wait to see how this shakes out.
