Somehow, despite all of those fancy new graphics, sound and tactile controllers, text-based games still thrive online. Multi-User dungeon text games continue to be a viable form of gaming despite the surge in high-end video games.

For me, asking why I play a MU when I could play EverQuest is like asking someone why they would read a book instead of watching the movie of the same story. The text-based format for role-playing allows the same kind of immersion in the story as a book does with the added ability to interact with it and shape the story as you go along. There are no images on the screen to limit your imagination's interaction with the story and with other players.
